Not sure? I think I will finish the chassis work which will certainly make it more attractive at auction then if it doesn't make the reserve then it will be on it's way to being done at least. It's going to knock back the time frame somewhat but I may even change my mind in that time.
TBH when I look back at the work I have done it does give me the inspiration to want to do more.

Fitted the rear most chassis outrigger

Then cut a section from a spare top hat and fitted that which allowed me to fit the last jacking point.

Then stood looking at the end of the section I repaired yesterday thinking how could I get around removing the front beam as it isn't possible when it's on the roll over frame. Decided to chop out a section of the beam (it'll need replacing anyway as it's shot) and repair what lay underneath.
Not pretty but it worked.

Looking better already!

Nicely done - wish I had a garage to work in plus the roll over frame as it seems to help a lot with what you are doing.
Keep it up sir :)

Keep it. It’s a Crossover. That’s special. And it’s yours. And like Andy says, you’ve got a roof over your and the bus’s head. You can weld (hardest part). And it’s looking tidy. Tidier. And when it’s finished. Imagine driving it along the road to your ideal destination. Keep it.

Does being a Danbury and a Crossover increase its worth then? Or more importantly was I right making the choice to save it when I was told by a specialist to scrap it?

Stock furniture and close to original. That’s where value lies. But that’s indicative of all the different coach company converted early/crossover buses really. Not sure of general value. Much of a muchness with all coach builders really. Crossovers are an interesting conundrum of parts. Between days of early and late, they are really interesting to study. I wonder if the VW builders dug deep in boxes in corners in the factories and thought let’s use these bits. Experimenting before settling on standard late bay design. Don’t know if this is a stupid, dreamed up idea lurking in my brain.....but I’d love to think that’s what could have happened. Saving any bus is worth the effort. Especially by someone like you who seem to be really giving it a go. I remember mine failing an MOT really badly, and the mechanics telling me to scrap it. I just laughed. ‘You’re joking right?’ The weren’t smiling. They fixed it, put the gears back wrong and struggled to sort through the challenges. If you don’t understand them, you don’t believe in them. The real value lies in the priceless experience of driving and using them. But, look around and they can fetch really high prices. The guys and girls on here who own these obsessions kind of despair at huge price hikes. They love them for what they are. There are a lot of variations in prices and some sellers take the P.

Nice post, cheers.

Today's instalment.

Those tie sections between the rails are quite flimsy which meant lining up as I went. The rear most is original (at least it was fitted when purchased) and was patched up ages ago but the front is a Schofield piece and much nicer to work with.

Working towards the rear corner next, a couple of repairs then it can go back on its wheels. :)

Only went up the garage between 4-6, had a bit of a tidy up then mixed up equal parts of Epoxy Mastic 121 and brushed it onto the fresh primer. I know it should be applied onto bare metal but I already used etch primer so hoping it should be ok.

Just re-read this thread from the beginning, man I must have been nuts! I will admit though, the work I'm doing now is just general repairs, looking at what I've had to deal with is crazy and was serious work.

If anyone is struggling with viewing the old pics, just google photobucket image fix, Google have a fix for Chrome and I'm sure the others do too, the only one you'll struggle with is IOs by all accounts.

Looking like you’re winning. Can’t fix your locked out earlier photos, even with the fix you suggest. But good to see what’s happening recently. Looking solid. I’m Glad you were Mad. Took guts to be nuts.

Cheers fella, wat are you viewing the forum on? Mobile device or PC/laptop?

I may yet go and fix the links.

Using an iPad. Tap on the clock type icon.....nothing happens. Been reading about the problems on other posts on this site. Luckily, I’ve been uploading my photos from my own stored photos on iPad. Don’t have a photo bucket type site, so can’t even access it to tweak.

Well, I've just made a start updating the thread. Taking a while though finding the original pics and renaming others I've stolen from Photobucket as I lot a few pics when a hard drive got nicked n an airport. This may take a while. :msn4:

A couple of hours today saw me repair the inboard end of the chassis cut I replaced so long ago.

Got it in etch primer to stop any flash rust.

Also got my plasma cutter out as I found access hard work with a grinder. I also removed the rear hub but couldn't shift the trailing arm as it is seized on the end of the torsion leaves. It was lifting from the other end but not off the top. I've left it soaking overnight.
