Got an oil leak on the engine. Being a novice I'm not quite sure where it's coming from. I've checked the sump plate and rocker covers, but it looks like it's coming from above or in the middle of the engine as its dripping down onto the bottom of the casing. Possibly towards the rear. Any ideas wher I should check? Thanks in advance for any help.
Ps I have a 1972 red bay 1600

Has the leak just started? Is it a drip or flood? Does it get worse when the engine is running or revving?

Best thing to do is try and clean up the area as much as possible and see if you can pinpoint where it is starting.
Mine had several leaks that needed dealing with although appears to be dry now!

The worst culprits are rocker cover gaskets and sump plate - which you seem to have checked.
My leaks came from the following places

Oil filler neck - no gasket installed
Alternator pedestal - no splash screen installed
Rocket covers - poor fitment from aftermarket parts and gaskets
Sump plate - twisted
Oil pressure sensor - worked loose
Distributor - oil passing the seal which was torn

Try and have a read here - helped me check and diagnose the various areas
