Oil breather location with dual carbs

So I've got my dual 36 DRLA's which means I removed the stock oilbath.
As a result the oil breather isn't connected to anything, so I'm getting oil vapor all over my engine bay. It seems that most people vent this into the R/H carb airfilter like this:

but then reading on the Samba some have said don't do this as crap gets into the carb and suggest connecting a hose from the breather to a small airfilter like so:

Which is it?
 
I ran mine to the right hand carb. I read some not great things about breather boxes. What's the worst crap that can get into the carb, bit of oil vapour?
