Hi Everyone,

I am the proud owner of a new crossover bus (Dec 71) which I am planning a complete overhaul of, however I am struggling to identify which pop top my bus has. Looking on here and elsewhere I believe it either to be a Canterbury Pitt, Danbury or Devon top, however I’m finding it difficult to see the differences between these as externally they all look very similar (to me at least). Hopefully you guys might be able to give me a better idea of what I have so here are a few pics.

I don’t think it’s a Devon or a Danbury, well I’m 99.9% sure it’s not a Devon, my money is on a Holdsworth or possibly a Canterbury Pitt. As well as the physical differences, there was also a lot of shared technology as in a lot of dealers would add different things as requested to get a sale like a Devon roof with a Danbury interior and visa versa, plus it’s also possible that a pop top was added some time or even years later. Later versions too like UK pop tops have been about for a while, so welcome along too and I’ll do a bit more digging.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,nice little project

Thanks for the insight 😁 As the mechanism seems pretty knackered, in your opinion would you ditch the roof and fit a new one or try to rework the mechanism on this one? My concern is that without knowing exactly what type of roof it is, finding new mechanisms is going to be near on impossible.

I think I’d go along with what you’re saying . You could also just phone UK pop tops and get them to send a price list and a few of the other manufacturers too just so that you have an idea where you’re heading price wise. Water wise ( leaks ) any of the fibreglass one piece shell type tops are pretty good, it’s down to the opening mechanism too and the bellows. But have a look at the roof you have and price up what needs to be done as in clean up, repair, respray, insulate and lining, then your mechanism and lastly a bespoke set of bellows, if you do it in that order you can’t go wrong, if you buy the bellows first and you have to change your ideas on the mechanism then there’s a good chance the bellows won’t fit.
Maybe keep your eyes open for a complete pop top that just needs freshening up and perhaps a new bellows, but a known type

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,a nw one is starting to sound in order

Hi,

That's a Danbury mk3 roof that was fitted from 1971.

I'm looking for one if you ever want to sell it!!

Regards Simon
