help required!!

hello, im a newbie on here and im new to the vw scene after finally geting round to purchasing a bay, its a '72 crossover so i wasn't sure wether to join here or the latebay site but i opted for here. Im currently restoring after realising that under the shiny paint job was a rusty nail doh!! but hey ho you live and learn i suppose. Now this might seem like a daft question but i was wondering if anyone can tell me which engine lid is right for my bus early or late and whats the difference the one on mine is shagged but looking at pics online they look the same to me. early lid ('67-'71)

late lid ('72-'79)

Late engine lids are wider and not so deep and have the number plate light pressing nearly full width.

The early 72 XO has a six month only lid so you have to ask yourself is yours an early XO or late XO

I ws led to believe that a late lid will fit all '72's

the 72 only lid had slightly shorter lip (above number plate)

maybe take a picture of the arse end and post if your in real doubts?
