Hi all, this is my virgin post, would appreciate some advice please!

I have attacked the silicon sealant that the PO put under the gutters to treat the rust. Should I reseal once I have finished or is that a bad idea?

Many thanks

Liz

Yes, its just been masked up.

After you've bare metalled it and etch primed it you could use a brushable seam sealer and then high build and paint as normal but I wouldn't say its a necessity.

I agree, but one of the 14 previous owners did loads of mental stuff to it, so in a way I'm not surprised! They also painted the window rubbers black: presumably they thought that would help to prolong their life?!

Thanks for the tips so far.

It is a real problem with such old vehicles, especially ones like VW Campers that have had their ups and downs and many owners - mine had some such horrendous (sp?) repairs
