...so driving back from Cornwall with 6 hours to go the red light starts flickering, then stays on solid, only 200 miles to home. Checked fan belt to check
cooling fan OK. OK. Nothing to do but cross fingers, turn off radio and hope.
We made it home, where for a laugh I tried to restart it - stone dead.
Taking the two wires off the generator, grounding DF, the output rises to 45v when rev'd so generator OK.
Battery shows a charges 12.8v with no increase when engine rev'd (or turned off)
Before I splash out £40 for new regulator is there anything else I should try ?
Is the regulator a sealed unit or can the contacts be cleaned..
Is there any further testing to check regulator...?
Many Thanks in advance for any comments
For anyone interested this is the generator test - not a great video, but may help. Remove the two wires from generator, measure voltage of thicker/wire terminal and short the thinner/wire terminal to ground. Should get 40-50 volts (DC). The generater should reduce this to about 14v to charge battery
