69 LHD Westy For Sale
Tax exempt and with a new MOT to 05/08/2016 (Passed with no Advisory's)
Looking for offers in excess of £13500
Imported from California and we are the first UK registered owners from Oct 2011. During the first year we put a lot of money, love, sweat and tears into sorting our camper. It is very solid apart from some rust just starting to show at the front (see pictures) but we have had it looked at and been told that it is not serious and should not require any work in the next couple of years. But we can give no guarantees. We are only selling as we are fast approaching retirement and feel it’s time to go for something larger as we intend to go away for longer periods and want the additional comfort.
The current speedo shows 36000 but this is the forth speedo we have had in as many years (this one appears to be a keeper). We have kept a log starting from 52951 which was the millage on what we believe to be the original speedo at the time of import. From this we estimate the millage to be c69000. We had to get another engine (the original dropped a valve) in April 2012 and since then have had 3 years and 14000 miles of trouble free travel. We are hill walkers and have done the Three Peaks with it as well as many trips to The Lakes, The Dales, The Peak District, all over Wales and The West Country as well as many short breaks to The Cotswolds and the South Coast.
The first MOT Oct 2011 done, possibly not that vigorously, by the importers had some minor Advisory’s which were sorted.
The second was not so simple. The main issue was with the brakes. The braking system was totally overhauled with many new parts resulting in a bill for £1000+. However since then it has sailed through with a couple of minor Advisory’s which have again been sorted. The next MOT was not due until Oct 2015 but we have just had one done so you will have a full 12 months certificate.
The gear linkage has been sorted and this van has the best gear selection of any I have driven. Overall a very good drive bearing in mind that you have drum brakes with no servo and no power steering.
We have invoices for work, parts and accessory’s totalling nearly £7000.
We have removed the original Coolbox/Sink housing unit as we found the extra room to be of greater benefit but this unit will be included in the sale so you can replace it if you wish, also we have replaced the original front seats with MGF seats, these being much more comfortable on long trips plus they have the added safety provided by the head restraints, again the originals are included and these have been recovered in Cream Vinyl. The door mirrors are of the Brazilian style, although not as nice to look at as the originals they do make driving more relaxing as you can see so much more, once again a pair of original style mirrors are included should you wish to put them back on.
We have fitted all new seat belts which includes 2 x 3 point and 2 lap belts in the back giving 6 belts in total.
The speedo works although reading slightly fast and the fuel gauge is accurate, the dash warning lights for the indicators, oil pressure and alternator all work but the lights on and high beam warning light do not and I can’t find the fault, however the lights all work fine. Since fitting the new steering wheel the indicators don’t self-cancel.
We had a leisure battery fitted which runs the Propex heating system, reading lamps and an accessory socket plus there is an extension lead type hook up. The Propex heating is brilliant for when on site with no hook up and we have sorted the cab heating with new heat exchangers and cables for when on the move.
We have sourced and fitted various trim details to tidy the interior and exterior and have fitted a shelf above the cab for extra storage when on site with the roof raised.
The sale will include the bike rack as seen in the photos with a bike cover and a full winter cover for the van plus odds and ends like a cable set that we carry (just in case) as the recovery services seldom carry any that are long enough.
A JK Retro awning with sleeping compartment and a Calor Gas 2 burner camping cooker with full height legs are available by separate negotiation.
Can be viewed in Farnborough GU14
