Hi all, after a little bit of help with my fuel gauge, took the engine out last year and also the tank, checked the sender and all was fine, connections were good so put it all back, gauge was ok but maybe a bit jumpy. However, recently it's been jumping up and down or not really registering properly, and now it seems to not want to do much at all. Anything I can check/try before ripping out the engine again??

Yes. Check the spade connector on the back of the gauge. They corrode with age and make poor contact. Also check the ground connection on the dash and make sure the fuses in the fuse box are also not corroded.

Basically check all the easy stuff first before resorting to the tank.

If in the end you are still certain it's the tank/sender unit then it's possible to cut a hatch to access it. Have a Google - there's several "how to's".

To eliminate the tank sender unit there is a wire from tank usually down right hand side under wheel arch. Put a thin needle through this wire and wrap some wire round needle and earth it.Switch ignition on and gauge should read full, If not problem with sender unit.If sender unit is problem do as Trikky2 says and cut hole in top cover to change unit. A lot easier than taking engine out to get at fuel tank.
