Hi boys and girls,

I´m not new to aircooled VW´s at all, but it I never had a Type 2.

This is a list of cars I owned through last 15 years

1961 Golf Blue sedan from my family (still have it)
1966 beige sedan with sliding roof (resto project, then sold to friend)
1984 Mexi beetle (Silver bug edition) I used as a daily for 5 or 6 years sold to friend
1969 all original pristine Typ 181 Trekker (stolen in 2004)
1971 Typ 181 Trekker I rebuilt for 1/4 mile racing, was at European Bug In 2011 and I still have it
1973 Swiss Postal Typ 147 Fridolin sold to Texas in 2014, was at European Bug In 2013
1961 Golf Blue sedan from Sweden, first owner, same as our old family sedan. Will be at EBI 2015

I never had a bus but I had to jump for an early bay which popped up in heart of Czech Republic, 20 km from my weekend house. Imported to one owner directly from factory and stayed in family ever since. Pretty rare situation as import of western cars behind iron courtain was almost impossible at the time.

Now please take a look at the car and tell me what you see..the good, the bad and the ugly. My eye is not trained to Type 2s.... and I´ll annoy you later with questions.

Yay, pretty excited as I´m going to change the fluids tomorrow and start the engine after supposed 15 years of rest !

Nice find. Looks very original and honest to me. No mods look to have been made. Defo a 68. Neptune blue paint. Left the facory as a Kombi. That's all I can say from the single pic. By the way your album is private. Need to change the settings.

Hi Paul, I have the original mid seat and rear seat for the bus, my intention is to clean everything, make mechanical repairs and do a light and quick camping setup to make this season (sleeping, heating, fridge). Considering Z bed convesion or if Westy bed is better solution (this will be one of my stupid questions).

Later I´ll finish my 1835 singleport engine I started to build for the Fridolin, but never finished because of car´s sale. Since the engine in bus is not original anymore, I will install my own engine with some extra ponies, oil squirters piston cooling, oil filtering and some other neat stuff as distributorless ignition, CSP stainless exhaust and twin carbs. I have all the part I just have to build it together.

Please try to click this link to my Picasa album with more pictures. I tried to change the settings for privaci and sharing.

After a quick walkaround a decision is made. Some sheet metal work is necessary so goodbye this season (My old trusty ´61bug will have to do). Otherwise chassis, axle, brakes are perfect, the engine AND the transmission are "X" marked, that means factory exchange parts and from the looks they are perfectly bone dry. Will be looking for some parts very soon.

I decoded the m-plate yesterday. It clearly shows that the car was produced with intention to export to Czechoslovakia. Very interesting.

M plate shows for example:

103 Heavy duty shock absorbers for bad roads
121 Two electrical ventilators in fresh air system
156 One oil bath air filters with larger oil capacity (1968-1974)

not much done on the bus apart from: brake resto, steering resto, front axle resto, wiring check, small adjustments here and there. Got it driveable and "MOT"ed. Purchased new tires and some missing bits. And now collecting energy for some bodywork!

Met my metalworker and friend today. Here is the list of parts needed for the bodywork on the bay. Main problem is dogleg. Non of the stockists seem to have them. I sent some e-mails and will wait. Is there any other option for nice quality doglegs?

So, new engine is slowly being built. I gathered parts for my Fridolin, but sold the car and as the bay came to the family, I dugged them from the storage.

On the picture the engine and other parts are only loosely mocked up, still missing the CSP linkage and lower cylinder sled tins but the longblock is finished-

short specs:

thickwall 92 mm cylinders, Grant rings
singleport heads, stainless valves, single HD springs, stock rockers on solid shafts, stainless pushrod tubes, alu pushrods
Engle 100 cam
DPR 69mm crank
everything balanced
Scat sump, Schadek 26 mm pump, full flow filtering
36HP style doghouse shroud modded with velocity ring, thermostat flaps, full engine tin including sled tins and industrial tins
as you can see, I can go with oldschool Bosch 019 screamer distributor +Pertronix or full EDIS in the future

OOh yeah and the case is equipped with pressure sensitive piston oil squirters in the main oil channel. This is experimental and we will see hot his turns out!

Lovely bus mate, You have a holiday home in Czech? Nice, I stayed in Brno for a while and visited the Moravian Karst etc. Great place.

I noticed the trigger wheel on the flywheel pulley.

Ive had great success in the past on Mini's with Megajolt EDIS ECU kits. Quite cheap too! Use all the ford edis kit.

In fact I´m Czech! Or Bohemian :)
I have all the parts for EDIS, but I want to break in the engine with conventional ignition I know wery well. I want to go experimental later.

Cool!, will be nice to see how it turns out.

Ahoj! for now

After bodywork is done I´m going to "Clipper-ize" it. I already have all the deluxe stuff including chrome front badge, grille trim, beltline trim and what is important - deluxe bumper trim!:)

Some short news. My car is under repair using parts from A.H. Schofield and new quality JP Group doglegs (very good parts!).
A lot of straightening and metal ironing and smoothing and and shaping behind and ahead. That´s what happens when you buy T-boned car.

Cracking early pictures of the bus, helps with the history. Would be interested in following this bus. Keep us updated please.

Hi Tony,
turned out the bus needed a major resto. It had a well done repair - nose change early in its life and repaint in factory color, but currently it is completely stripped down and undergoing bodywork. In the meantime I got a lot of correct parts for that. I´m seeing my bodywork guy this evening.

I´m still far away from the point my bodywork is finished so I´m toying with small stuff at home
