Having sold my Swedish latebay singlecab a few months ago

I’m really missing having a pickup on the road so thought I’d crack on with the early I bought last year!

It’s had some interesting SA bodgery, Beetle rear lights, strange front indicators in the wrong place [emoji1], lots of pop riveted on sheets covered in filler,
wiring might be fun !

We went away for a month in Europe in July in the camper

another latebay sorry but 2500 trouble free miles down to the Alps [emoji41]

While we were away our normally spanner shy son took it upon himself to take the engine out and start stipping the pickup!

Nice surprise!
So my enthusiasm returned I’ve set about it, first job new front panel.
Schofield’s were out of stock of the full Wolfsburg West fronts so I’ve gone for the 6 part cheaper diy version [emoji29]

Inner panels are pretty solid just a few localised repairs.

I’ll feel happier putting it on the rollover jig when this is all solid.

Singlecabs are a bit bottom heavy, it was very reluctant to roll

Got there in the end with my lad manning the locking pin and me swinging on the cab .
Underneath half an inch of sandy clay there’s lots of original paint and very little rot

That rolling device looks very useful, I could do with one to dinitrol the underside of mine. Is it possible to use them on complete busses with engine in?

I wouldn’t like to risk it, essentially pivots on two M12 bolts!

Looking forward to seeing this one progress Dunc :D

Hi Mark, I’ve scraped all the underseal and clay off the underside now and it’s really solid , edges of the load bed are the worst place but overall it’s in better nick than my late was !
Soon have it sorted .

Looking at that pic it does indeed look solid, it must have been preserved very well!

I didn't think your late was bad either, always looked tidy :)

Hey quick question... I have a 70' SA singlecab.... have you worked out the purpose of the oval hole at the front of the engine bay and if something (ie a cover panel) is meant to fill it? This is the first picture I have seen on the internet with the same hole.

I am at the rollover-jig, bare metal and structural welding stage at the moment.

No cover panel, it’s open to let intake air through from the side vents!
No rear corner vents on pickups!

I see. That had me pulling my hair out for ages searching for diagrams etc. Thanks.

Well time does race by!
In my defence it’s an understatement to say I’ve got lots of other projects on but I’m determined that this is going on the road this year.

Some progress has been made, the load bed edge and o/s sill are done

Are your brake and clutch pivoting on the same shaft? I cannot find a diagram that looks similar to mine with every itteration of search i can think of and cannot for the life of me identify any key or retaining mechanism but cannot drift the shaft out. I was wondering if yours being of similar age and possesing the SA oddities had given you a similar experience?

I will have a look tomorrow and take some pictures for you

Thanks. Here is a closeup of mine after i took the pedals off and tried to persuade the shaft out, I managed to bash it a few inches before it seizes tight (even this would not have been possible with the floor fitted). There is a bit of a key/tab on each end of the shaft which you might just make out on the visible end. I can't remove these so far as I know though since they look fixed i have tried in case though. Trying to wack it any further through the hole is just going to wedge it in tighter as there isn't any clearance. I was wondering if I was missing something ( a hidden bush or necessary alignment trick) but have no reference diagrams and figured i would stop before I make it worse.
