1/4 Light frame Seal

Has anyone taken the glass out of their 1/4 windows and replaced the rubber between the frame and glass?

I need to replace some of the latches so figured it was worth doing this at the same time. Looked for the appropriate rubbers and seen them on Autocraft for £200 which seems a bit excessive :shock:

Is there a cheaper alternative???

did you buy the creative seals?

I’ve seen something online where someone made a jig to press the glass back in. I think they may have have used the flat strip style seal though which made fitting a lot harder.

Hi, Haven't bought the seals yet, I need to phone them because I only need one and not the pair they have advertised. Also the quarterlights I bought years ago and am only fitting now - the left one is all good but it looks like the right one had been broken into as the frame around the glass was full of silicone and when the glass was out I can see how much the frame is bent so I'm trying to massage it into reasonable shape

Phoned them this morning, they were very helpful and pleasant to deal with, but unfortunately weren't sure if the seal would fit. I've ordered one and I'll let you know how it goes.

I’ll definitely be making a jig to help press mine together. I ended up ordering the old fashioned (flat) style ones…I’ll let you know how that goes…

Did some years ago, schofields supply a flat piece of rubber, fold around the glass, apply silicon grease,(lots) and squeeze... then use a rubber mallet...cut off the excess rubber after.. surprisingly easy but you will need an assistant

Hi , The seal from Creative Engineering arrived this morning. I did a dry run without any sprays and pushed it almost all the way in. I think a sprinkle of talcum powder will help, so initial indications are good. My only thing to point out is that the catch area will need a little extra in the way of a bit of inner tube as it's a much larger area than the frame.

I ended up getting the original style seals as a full set of creative ones for a deluxe worked out too expensive. I made a jig to press the glass back in and although I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was an easy job but it all went back together well enough

Love the jig, those clamps are a dream,I have similar but the cheapo set from Lidl but nowhere near as good as those. That looks like the whole job might be a bit easier if you was an octopus or a surgeon with half a dozen assistants. :shock: :roll: :shock:

I could definitely have done with a third hand although the jig did help.
