I've removed the metal frame and the insulation that it holds onto the ceiling of the engine bay, I've repainted the metal frame so it looks decent but I'm assuming there is better insulation than the old stuff.
What have others used? and have you reinstalled the metal frame with the holes even if not using the old style insulation?

I used Silent Coat sound deadening material and a wooden holed board as supplied by Rackhams for the engine bay ceiling. Added some more silent coat to the top of the engine bay area too.

About half way down the page there a couple of photos.

I used this stuff in my engine bay underneath the existing tarboards.

I used high density foam with an oil and heat resistant layer on it specially designed for engine compartments.
