Hello and thank you for checking out my on going Restore of my 68 Riviera. Named her Mallow because she looks like a big marshmallow.I apologized now to the purist. I'm building her to be a usable camper. I bought her Oct 21 from a friend. Needed money to buy his daughter a car for her 16th b-day. He wasn't totally attached to it so it worked out good. She isn't perfect, but thats not why I bought her. Rust in the dog legs, drivers floor rusted through, water damaged camper stuff, ripped pop top canvas, and electrical issues. My First concern was the electrical since none of the blinkers worked, and the brakes were hit and miss. She had the wrong emergency switch in her, so I got the correct one and wired her up the right way. Not to mention an aftermarket head unit was wired into the turn signal fuse.

After I took care of the electrical I moved right into pulling out some of the camper pieces. The jump seat was pretty much falling apart at the bottom because of water damage. The sink is still in great condition so I just pulled it out for the time being. Wasn't digging the plaid seats and bed so we bought some new foam and fabric which I'm still waiting to upholster. I rebuilt the jump seat and the door under neithe the rear seat. and the arm rest next to the seat. Again water damage. My wife didn't like the number of different color woods through out the bus so we decided to paint the big wood panels in the bus white. All the pieces I built we painted the same color as the rear headliner.

I mentioned rust, I just finished welding in a new piece to fix the hole in the drivers floor. Dog legs are next. After I welded in the metal I covered the whole front floor board with truck bed liner. That should keep it quiet, and water proofed.

So for that ripped canvas. I took off the old one which let me tell you has seen better days. Found a company in Seattle which I just live a ferry crossing away from. That has a guy who used to work for Riviera. So I took over my canvas about a week ago and I'm waiting on that to be finished to get the pop top all back together. I took the pop top off and cleaned up the rusted supports and painted them and added a new wood headliner, again water damage to the old one. So that is about as much progress I have made so far on my project. I plan to have her on the road again soon. Dog legs are my next big job on her. After that its upholstery, and a paint job on the outside.

I know most topics havent happened without photos so here are some. Starting from the day I got her to where she is now.

cheers lobie

I actually will be selling the plaid covers after I get the upholstery done. I'll be posting them on samba, and on here i'll keep you posted.

I haven't much left to do since I'm waiting on my tent to come in. So today I was looking at my door panels, and wasn't digging how because they got wet they didn't attach to the bottom of the door any more. I took my happy ass to Lowe's got me another 4X4 piece of birch and made 2 new panels I only finished the drivers one, but I like the way it turned out. Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with it. Paint, stain, or put fabric on it. I'll ponder for a while and figure it out. Until then here are the photos of the action.

Didn't get to much accomplished yesterday, but got some things done. I got the other door panel completed. Which was only bolting it up, and making sure all the holes were big enough for everything. After I got that done I grabbed the wife we cut a piece of fabric and upholstered the bottom cushion to the jump seat. So like I said not a lot done, but still making forward progress.

Starting my approach to touch down. Slowing down on what I accomplish at night. Trying to get a piece a night upholstered, and just relax. Little calm before the storm soon. Tent should be done soon (I hope) so I can get that knocked out. then probably won't get to the dog legs till after x-mas. Got the jump seat done last night. It looks good. I piece of furniture down one huge one to go. Going to be tackeling the center console piece, and arm rest for the back seat tonight.

Tonight my wife and I finished upholstering the top of the center console. Didn't get to the arm rest, but you have to enjoy life a little bit. Plus it is pretty cold tonight so we decided to snuggle a bit. Used the under side of the lid so we retained the pouch and the brown doesn't look to bad with the blue. Also while we were at Wal-mart tonight grocery shopping. I picked up a 6 gallon water jug that I'm going to plumb and use for the water tank for the sink. Going to be a disconnect and hook up so when not using the sink it is not hooked up kind of deal. Also should be easier to get water when needed.

Ok so I will be attacking the issue with the windshield wiper arms. I'm getting a child's cot and a better rearview mirror then mine, and some wiper arms for a price.

My wife had to work tonight so we didn't get any upholstery done. So when we got home I decided to throw some stain on the door panels and the pop top headliner. So only did about 30 mins of work on the old girl tonight, but some progress is better than no progress.

tomorrow I hope to attack more, but Friday is kind of my break day because my crack T.V. show comes on gold rush can't be missing that.

Look back everyday, and there should be new pictures. I'm pretty good about posting after I finish up for the night or the next morning.

My wife and I talked about what we are going to accomplish tonight. She said she wanted to attack the rear seat so we will probably get the bottom cushion done tonight. Pictures to come in about 15 hrs. US time versus your almost GMT time.

Scored a child cot and a 68 rear view mirror today. Figured out the wiper issue. Well its a 68 and VW didn't update their wiper assemblies till 1970. So I have a wiper assembly for a split window still. Gonna put it in the classifieds on samba soon. Once I get it out. Tomorrow I'm pulling an assembly out of a 70 bay window, and I'm going to put that in.

Tonight the wife and I got the rear seat bottom cushion upholstered. Tomorrow we'll get the back rest done, and bam a back seat will be born again.

Ok so I made up for yesterday I think. I put in the 70 wiper assembly, I dremelled out some of the wood in the cabin to allow the child cot bracket to fit, got the child cot hooked up, and we re-upholsted the bottom cushion because we didn't get it tight enough the first time. Wife was to busy watching gold rush and wasn't pulling hard enough. So I feel some what accomplished tonight. Also I put in my newer 68 mirror as well. I'll be putting my split window wiper assembly on the classifieds and the mirror too soon. I also have an extra wiper switch, but I think I'm going to hang on to it for a little.

Last night before my wife got home I decided to hook up one of the tubes from the driver side heater box to the rest of the system. While I was under her noticed the cables weren't hooked up. Actually I noticed they are both shot so I ordered new ones. Also I took off the spare tire off the front and removed the grill. Going to be sand blasting it to get rid of some of the rust. Then once my wife got home we upholstered the back rest for the couch. Now I just have the arm rest and send off the rest of the fabric to my mother-in-law for the bed. So tonight I will knock out the arm rest, and hopefully start on the rest of the list if have. I also called about my tent and it will be done next week. So that should be going on as well.

Success finally finished upholstering the stuff I could get done. The arm rest was a bitch, but we conquered. my wife and I had a few disagreements about it. Everything isn't bolted in. The stuff is done though, and it feels so good. Now I just need to figure out the hook up points for my car seats. So I can take my kiddos out for a ride. I got a few parts on order to tackle the heater box problem. Hope to see them next week. Until then we will see what I accomplish tonight.

Okie Dokie!
Build is going slow, I'm waiting on a bunch of parts to show up to keep moving forward. Also my wife has a severe kidney infection, so I haven't been able to get much done. I have been helping her, because she is in a lot of pain.

I did manage to get away for about thirty minutes and sand blast the wiper arms. I also got some paint on them too.

All my parts will be here tomorrow, so I hope my wife is feeling better. I need to get a turn on some stuff list is long, but waiting on parts.

I bought an angle grinder yesterday, and a wire wheel. So I can start hitting some things and make shinny before I lay some paint down.

I would just like to say that my wife is better which is a good thing. I couldn't get a lot done, because I was waiting on parts. But she was in and out of the hospital for 3 days after thanksgiving because of a kidney infection. So she is finally around 75% normal still fighting it a little, but getting better. Which couldn't have come at a better time, because my parts got here today. Wasn't much that can be seen, but got a lot done today.

I put in the new dash vents, new heater cables, got the eyebrows on I just love the look of bays with them on, and I started stripping the grills paint. I also got in a rear main seal which means a engine pull in the future most likely after the holidays.

I'm contemplating the paint for the bus, and I'm down to two decisions. Plasti dip it, or just strip her down to bare metal and clear coat it. Leaning more towards the stripped down one. My list is growing on stuff needed to be done, and getting smaller. I ordered kick panels too because they were $40 cheaper because of cyber monday. So should see those soon too.

Last night I got my 5.25 inch speakers in, to replace the the 4 inch under dash one. It was pretty old and just down right dry rotted. Got it all hooked up and installed so I have a total of 3 speakers up front. I will be looking into getting some 6x9s and istalling them under the front seats. which will give it some good sound. I also found about another foot of slack in my passenger side speaker so I got to install that as well. That's two more things off the list.

Got off work pretty early so I decided to tackle the rear view mirror. It was way better than the one I had just pretty corroded. So I got out the wire wheel and knocked it all off, then painted her up. Looks way better than before.
