Hi my clutch cable keeps breaking by the fixing pin at the front.
It’s a 71lhd. I’m told that it’s not common for this to happen. Am I doing something wrong?

It ends up being inside the chassis on my van so it’s difficult to see

I heard (read) that if your gearbox earth strap is bad, it can try to earth through the clutch cable instead which causes heating and early failure. Not sure if it’s true but it would be worth checking your earth straps.

What is the mode of failure on the cable, is it at one point? Is it frayed then snapping?

It seems to just snap. It’s not frayed

How long do I have to be on here for?

Sounds like its under massive strain, must be the way its hooked through the front as I assuming its connected to the gear box in the normal manner? I'll take a pic of my 71' linkage to show how mine connects later tonight

Right I crawled underneath the front the two pictures of the conical housing shows it connected to the clutch peddle and behind this is the cable that runs down a tube to the gearbox end showing the cable adjuster. Does yours look like this?

This video is great as it shows the conical housing about 2/3rds of the way through and how the front cable is connected

The cable snaps at the front where it is joined to the end of the cable.
It’s the same as the images and videos
