Currenly 500 miles into a tour of Belguim, Netherlands, Germany.
Plagued with flat spot (so i thought) turns out its fuel starvation, culminating in sitting at the road side, coughing and backfiring, eventually clears, happened 6 times.

Can anyone suggest a fix of some sort? Got some tools and some spares.

Any help is welcome

First thing to check is the fuel filter then work towards the carb.
Check for degraded/damaged fuel line. Pop the carb off and give it a good swill out with some petrol.
It aint perfect but its a start. Good luck.
Definitely be someone else along to help.

Thanks, all new fuel lines, filters and new carb and electronic ignition, engine is stock 1600

Easy check for fuel pressure with pipe off carb and placed into a clear large water bottle laying on its side , squirt on cranking should hit the bottom of a large water bottle(1.5-2L) then you can work forward from that point towards carb or back to the pump and or blockages in the tank but gives you a great starting point. New pipes are always worth checking visually too internally for a general idea of condition and taking off and blowing through for peace of mind.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, fuel pumps are pants nowadays

Had a similar problem. The pin in the fuel pump had sheared. When the engine got hot enough the pump wouldn't supply enough fuel for the engine to run properly. Give it 20 mins and it would be fine!
