Hi All,

Just after a bit of help please. My camper didn't have an indicator stalk when I bought it, just some dodgy switches on the side. So I have bought a five wire OG switch and wiring but the wiring colours don't match. The wire colours of the new switch are br/w, br, bk/w/g, bk/w and bk/not sure but possibly green?

My bus is a 1970 american, so I would imagine this has something to do with it. The wire colour that threw me in the connector to dodgy switch was bk/y.

So if anyone has any pointers that would be awesome.

Thanks

Your 5-wire switch colours match mine (1970 RHD)

There are some really good diagrams on Samba, for example this one is quite clear:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/baybus_72a.jpg
The indicator switch is E2 and the hazard switch E3
Brown and brown/white are for dipping the main beam
Black/green, black/white and black/green/white are the right, left and common (feed) indicator circuits.

US buses had a different stalk and hazard switch arrangement due to not having dedicated turn-signal bulbs; more pins on both E2 and E3,
Compare the same E2 and E3 with the US equivalent:

How easy it will be to get your new switch working depends on what changes might have already been done to your US wiring.

Possibly separating your tail lamp and turn signal circuits are what your "dodgy switches" were doing?

Hi, ah ok so it may be easier for me to get a US spec one I would imagine. The dodgy switches do exactly what the indicator stalk would have done, the previous person has even used the orginal wiring loom from stalk for the switches, so the colours match up at least.

Appreciate your time mate

I don’t know why you didn’t wanna swap for the US 1 I have....

Ok indicator in and working :) the other dodgy switch is for hi and low beam as dimmer relay is missing and wires go straight into the fuse box :/

Dimmer relays hard to source?
