ufff - the number plates on my bus have been stuck on to the bodywork (by previous owner), with, I assume the unbelievably sticky stuff that sometimes comes with them - i want to unstick them without removing paint or damaging the plates if poss - any ideas how to break the grip of the seemingly un-budgable adhesive, please? tia

They are usually stuck on with double sided tape, first try a heat gun(not to hot) if the plate comes off and there is any residue left on the paintwork try some WD40, spray some on the residue leave for a couple of mins then scrape off with a soft piece of plastic (like the ones used for body filler) take your time

I use dental floss behind the plate to cut through the sticky pads attaching the plate to the bodywork then use warm soapy water and patience to remove the residue. WD40 can also help to shift the adhesive if its been attached for a while
