Very pleased with my new yew wood gear knob from Mike Howles, feels a bit more positive in the hand than the stock gear knob.

Great result - sounds like money well spent :)

Engine and gearbox out ! Thanks to Paul @LVH engines for the help.

One of the top bolts, gearbox to engine was missing [emoji37] good job the other bolt was on tight I suppose [emoji23]

Abel (on this forum) is building me a 1955cc type 1 engine, and the gearbox is getting a re-build. I am really excited to see what it will drive like. [emoji847]

When I get a minute I will have to tidy up the engine bay and look at the petrol tank.[emoji3]

interesting time of year for a new engine Mike........ how long until you're back on the road? (ps - if you take teh tank out be very sure that the gauge works reliably before you put the eying back in. ask me how i know...

Yes one of the jobs on my list is a new sender whilst the tank is out as well as new filler pipe and breather fittings. [emoji108]

Should be ready middle of May if everything goes ok.

As a matter of interest the new WW tanks are not protected inside from rust so if my tank is in decent condition I will just buy a liquid treatment for the inside.

The fuel tank filler looks really good apart from a slight bit of rust.

Petrol tank coming out next.

I’m fed up at the moment, although the tank looks really good the two nuts holding the tank straps down are seized on! I have used wd40 and a wire brush but it still takes a huge amount of force to even make a small turn on the left nut [emoji37]

I am only using a 13mm spanner because I haven’t got a long socket to go on my wrench. I tried using a nut splitter but because of the awkward position it is only cutting about 2/3 of the width of the nut!

Although I’m holding the strap to stop it twisting at the same time as trying to undo the nut the strap is still not looking too good.
Had to come in for a cup of tea to calm down !

Been there and done that - just have to keep at it I'm afraid.........

Yes I will - soon!

I was thinking of cutting the straps so I can at least get the tank out. But then I would still have the seized nut and bolts to remove.
Doesn’t look as though the straps are available any longer. I suppose I could get someone to weld them up for me.
