Hoping to generate a bit more heat up front as we don’t have heat exchangers fitted ... or centre pipe in the mid section. Front section to totem pole is there, so diesel heater is the way to go.

We have a port-a-loo behind the passenger seat bulkhead, the plan was to move this 100mm towards the rear of the cab to accommodate the fuel tank.

Made the frame out of mdf and had some fabric left over from the conversion to cover it with.

Did the same with the lid and fitted some false panel clips so it can be lifted off to refuel.

There’s a matching door card on the back of the bulkhead so the additional fabric won’t look out of place.

Also moving the seat by 100mm means I can now reach it as a foot rest from the rear bench seat better ... Happy Days.

Heater is going under the van, pics to follow next week [emoji106]

Been busy getting Winnie ready for her MOT next week. Noticed that the steering box was leaking from the output shaft seal, luckily I’d picked up a spare box a while back on eBay so swapped it over.

Being a Pitman Arm virgin I was pleased at how easily it came off with a wide puller.

Also replaced the steering coupling and redid the horn connections. The column had been incorrectly fitted previously and it was pulling up on the coupling, it was a right state [emoji85]

All good now [emoji106]

I’ve fitted a diesel heater under the van utilising the centre pipe to give us some heat up front when driving as we don’t have heat exchangers. I didn’t want the modern digital controller, just an old school style one under the dash.

Also replaced the engine bay light that I’d previously fitted as it ended up being rubbish. This one’s spot on £8 from China

Changed the plugs and checked adjusted valve clearances.

Couple of things to do Monday, then hopefully she’ll be good to go for Tuesday [emoji1696]

Winnie passed her M.O.T with flying colours [emoji106]

Steering was nice and straight with minimal play after box change

Fired up the diesel heater and wow, does that put some heat into the cab area (not needed today obviously) perfect for those chilly runs

Time to get booked in somewhere [emoji106]

Thanks Mike [emoji106] ... I’ve got a Red9 kit on the front suspension so I think that would be classified as a change from original.

I trust these guys, they like aircooled and always give good advice when they notice something. For me that’s worth the MOT fee alone.

Couple of jobs this week, decided to fit new valve covers after setting the clearances.

Noticed that the rear shocks were shot, possibly as a result of the van being slightly lowered, so fitted some shorter stroke 530/420mm gas filled ones.

These were the shocks

Should’ve wiped that grease off before taking the pic [emoji23]

Just back from a fab weekend in Anglesey ... weather was exceptionally kind considering some parts of the country are under water.

Stayed on a nice quiet site, Ysgubor, Fadog near Benllech, great facilities the owners have worked really hard to get the site established in 3 years.

Had days out at Red Warf Bay, Bychan Beach and Dulas beach, bit hairy going down some narrow lanes with no passing points

Thanks for sharing!!

Just back from a great weekend In Constable Burton, nice quiet site just outside Leyburn.

Arrived early evening Friday after driving through some gorgeous villages along the way.

Winnie was flawless, I’d given the carb a bit of a tweak after adjusting the timing last week when setting up the max advance. She just pulled and pulled and ran great. We did 180 miles on less than half a tank all weekend which I think is a great return. That B6255 Road between Hawes and Ingleton is a fab drive.

Found a great walk on Saturday

Thanks ... we had a great time walking along the river ... pub was in a little village called Finghall. Can’t wait to do more of Yorkshire.

I’m enjoying your restoration thread [emoji106]

Fitted the J Tube shielding tinware thanks to reading Sparkywig’s thread the other week. Hopefully should keep things a bit cooler down there.

Annual oil change too ... we’re all set for Tribfest now in a couple of weeks, although we might squeeze a cheeky weekend in beforehand ... as y’do [emoji6] ... all booked for a lovely site near Ingleton [emoji2]
