Finally had a chance to investigate my knocking CV joint and looks like both are knackered on the noisy side:

So i'll be ordering some more tonight. Would of been slightly cheaper if I concentrated and didn't cut off the good boot!

Won't have time to get the other side off before Stanford hall so that's a job for later in the year.

Finished the job off over the weekend. Ended up going with some GKN lobro joints and boots. They were the OEM supplier and I'm hoping the boots will be good quality after reading about some lasting less than a year!

All assembled ready to refit:

Inspecting the old joints they had a date stamp of 8/67 on so looks like the originals had lasted 49 years! The boots were stamped vw as well so could well of done the same. Hope new ones do as well :)

Had a week of not long ago so I dedicated a day to washing/polishing/waxing the van:

Van post wash also featuring new mirrors that were purchased at stanford hall:

Then sorted out a fresh MOT, sailed through as always :D

This weekend I decided it was time to tackle a job that has been on the list for a long time. Time to go back to original 68 wiper arms. So this little pile got fitted:

Next stop is wales for DATC preceded by a few nights in the forest of dean and a trip to see Clem to get the bus cavity waxed.

Cheers guys. Spent half a day with Clem and we are all waxed up now. Went to shut the sliding door today and this came off in my hand:

Door had been difficult to close recently and I must of been giving it a bit of welly. New one arriving from heritage tomorrow! Rear striker adjusted and now much easier to close from inside so hopefully it won't happen again.

New one arrived and fitted, heritage came good and it arrived as promised. Only slight problem is it doesn't seem to have a grub screw to remove the barrel so i'm now on two keys :( better than not bring able to shut the door though. Might have to check the condition of my spare and get it chromed.

I had a bit of time today whilst i was waiting for the Golf to cool down so i could change the oil. Seemed like a good time to see if the van would start after being stood since October.

Battery had been on charge for the last couple of weeks so i was a bit disappointed when turning the key and all the lights went out and i just got a click from the starter :( a quick clean of the terminals and connectors and we sprung straight into life :) drove to the end of the drive and nothing has seized! Couldn't go any further as i stole an indicator bulb for the smart car over winter and forgot to get a replacement.

Oil change and service (and probation a wash) in a couple of weeks and then we are ready for the camping season :D

Van out today, went for fish and chips at the park, then picked up some furniture for the little ones new room before coming home and giving it a wash ready for Stanford hall next week. Noticed the hub caps were looking a bit sorry for themselves so had a quick polishing session :)

Have been a bit slack with this thread this year :) The bus turns 50 on Wednesday and this weekend was lovely so it seemed like a good chance for our last trip of the year. We promised Penny a drive to the grandparents in the bus and it was our new arrivals first trip in it. At just over 2 weeks old Ted seemed to approve as he slept the whole journey in both directions. Hopefully he will love camping as much as his sister!

So time for winter maintenance now. As a minimum I want to remove the now redundant LPG tank and find my brake fluid leak.....
