I've been advised to steer clear of CKD imports in favour of Californian on the basis that the metalwork was not rust-treated on the CKDs and bringing them back to the damp UK doesnt do them any good.

Is this factually correct:

1) Were campers built and exported from Germany less prone to rust than CKDs assembled in South Africa or Australia?
2) If so, was the metal work dipped or coated in someway?
3) If you were undertaking a full bare metal restoration.. would it even matter provided the restoration is done properly and the metal rot free?

Many thanks!!

My 69 was a CKD that went first to Australia and then came to the UK in 2005. It had some rust issues but the chassis and underneath were solid even though they hadn't been treated in any way. Have a look on the Midland paintwerks facebook page for Jeffs bus as its there getting restored at the moment. Most of the repairs seem to be previous owners bodges and accident damage rather than rust.
