Hi folks,

As you may have gathered from a few recent posts from myself, that I've been stripping parts of our engine down to cure a few oil weeps and sort a few issues. One of those jobs included fitting a fuel pressure regulator, which the van didn't have before. As I suspected, when starting for the first time, the engine doesn't seem as happy as before. It has got a fairly large shake at idle, and pulling the two rearmost plug leads make no difference to the idle speed. However, I had heard that this can be the case when running single barrel carbs, so I may investigate into a balance pipe to see if this helps out.

Anyway, digressing slightly. So the van seems to rev cleanly (in neutral), although the revs now drop off a little after revving it, more-so when cold, but it is throwing out a visible amount of unburned fuel. I haven't yet driven it, as that'll be my final test to make sure that fitting the FPR hasn't given me any running issues when under load. Ideally I want to get someone who is experienced with carbs to set them up, however, at this point in time, I'm loathed to spend hundreds on hours of rolling roads etc, when I'm looking at buying some different carbs in the not-too-distant future. Currently it has Empi ECT34's, and I'm fully aware of the shortfalls of these. Really I just want them tweaking by someone who knows what they're doing, to get us through the summer and really make sure that the new setup isn't doing any damage to the engine. Does that sound like I'm being tight?!

So, looking for recommendations from people you've used, and ideally a guideline price. Don't mind driving to someone worthwhile, but obviously the closer to home, the better - I am in Worcester.

I can post up some videos of the engine running if that is of any use?

Ive heard good things about Ben @ BHP based in Kingswinford. My Beetle will be going to him in the next month or so.

Thanks for your reply. As I didn't get a flurry of responses with recommendations, I've ended up booking in with RRS in Stourbridge, which was found via classiccarbs.co.uk. They appear to specialise in carbs, and have a vast array for sale on their website, including VW specific kits. Spoke to a chap called Chris on the phone, and he was asking for all the details on our van setup, so seems to be experienced in this respect. Will feedback with how it goes.
