Hello all, I am looking at getting the camper painted later this year but someone mentioned getting the shell galvanised. Is that an option or does it cost a fortune and potentially warp the body?

Thanks

I’ve not come across this before and not sure if it’s possible, or perhaps feasible. Nice idea for when they were new but a bit late now. I know you can buy new chassis for land rovers that are galvanised but not heard of T2s. Unless they’re referring to galvanised spray paint.

Ozziedog,,,,,,, theys a bit old I think

Although not exactly what you are requesting:
You could have it chemically dipped /stripped and cleaned.
Then after any nessarry repairs have it reamersed in anti corrosive electrophoretic coatings.
I've seen old cars done with this process and it is probably the best way to get the shell as cleaning rust free as possible.
But it's not cheap,

There was an article I read last week that covered galvanising a MGF subframe.

They guy had bought a spare one as he reckoned there was a good chance that it would distort in the high temperatures.
In the end it was OK but as they immersed it in a tank you'd need a pretty big tank - Land Rover chassis are one thing but a bus is another.

It also had to be very, very clean so that'd be a major job on a bus and you'd still have lots of hidden areas.

I like the idea but just don't think it'll work I'm afraid.

You can't use ordinary primer. It's special and not cheap. I know because our bumpers and fire wall came galvanised with our bus. I can't remember the name of the primer off the top of my head.

Also very naughty on the welding side as well. Shouldn’t weld real galv unless you’re masked right up

Good point Ozziedog! I had forgot about that, welding galv is a specialist process as it gives off harmful gases.
