    "rubber" cab steps..

Regarding rubber parts, if they are not facing harsh technical challenges like for oil or fuel seals, then lots of older rubber parts are likely to remain more durable than recently moulded ones. People immediately think that’s current cheapo parts to blame, which is only partly true. ( you can...

Group buy- Delrin bush for shift rod

Maybe rather than machine off the front end of the OG rod thus shortening it & its fit onto the locating pin, I am thinking if I can use a dremel & grind away the rear / inner face of the bore, by trying to pull the grinding cylinder out of the rod, and using circular motions. It’ll take a bit...

Group buy- Delrin bush for shift rod

The crisp looking shiftrod shown in Washburns image looks much more like the WW one in Mikes pictures, than his previous worn part. Referring to the look of the two raised ribs at the top edge of the slot. So I think Washburns must have inadvertently made their bushes to suit a WW or other repro...

    Techenders

Zooming right in on the yellow bus with its vents on steroids, does that also have wipers sweeping to the kerbside, same as on the first blue van. I’d seen an Australian import with similar vents on Kombi Klassics (but had normal wiper orientation)

Group buy- Delrin bush for shift rod

Was just thinking with it looking so new, could it be a CSP or WW rod, & maybe some internal difference not previously considered when they created their delrin bush. I wish my bus was closer to hand so i could try to fit mine. Its securely dry stored a few miles away.

Is it possible that Washburns gear linkage used in their pictures is a remanufactured part with a different bore detail compared to an OEM linkage? It struck me how crisp it looks for a 50year old part. Just a thought, so if the case, theirs may have a shorter front bore compared to others.

    Techenders

BIG scoops, at first I thought those had been a personal touch.

I've not had an opportunity to try mine either, but i suppose i might have just wasted my dinner break drawing my part up so i wouldn't forget its details once fitted, if it worked in improving my gears.

Your Early Bay Picture of the Day .....

This years first "proper" ride out in our microbus, waited ages for some fine weather. This is us at Souter lighthouse this weekend. Not too far from home, & a lovely stretch of coastline for exercising one of our dogs.

    Help with paint code please

love that running on the SA “sprintstars” I fancy a set off these on our bus, which is the same colour as yours. Also nice to see a white vw badge instead, nice contrast with the Neptune blue.

    Unknown knob

I’m glad you shared that picture. Ours is missing. It’s an M5 thread sticking out, doesn’t willingly move, but I wanted to know what actual VW knob version it should be. Looks like a black, early sixties type one, same shape as the ivory dash knobs on our 63 beetle if I am judging your photo...

    Delrin shift rod bush

I plan on measuring up mine once Mike has received them, so we have a drawing on record to make UK replacements if ever needed.

Sold CSP 130 PCD rear drums for 68-70 Bay - unused.

I’d been considering a pair of these for our ‘70. Is it the case that when using them the axle and hub nut protrude so far out such that it’s not possible to fit the Porsche centrecaps into your Fuchs? I have a set of flat4 Fuchs reps in my loft that I would have liked to use on our microbus.

Count me in if this goes ahead, but I see GrahamL has also offered to do the same.

    Delrin shift rod bush

I would definitely participate in that. Mines pretty vague and I’d prefer to try the best looking part than the ropey white ones.

    Delrin shift rod bush

I bet mine could use on of these too, my gearshift is going to need going through during this year. These look miles better than the pictures I’ve seen of those white ones. If I had a sample of one of these Delrin ones i bet i could run it past my employers who have just bought cnc lathe & mill...

High is the new Low - my 71 camper

“Patina” has to start somewhere….but I’d still be fuming, & probably thinking about doing a 4th stripe now.
