Saw this '72 at a wrecker on Friday, probably cut up by now. Managed at least to get the VW script from it.. :(

How to zero the odo of your speedo

It is a question often asked in the air cooled community - 'how do I reset the odometer of my VW to zero?' Well, I got the perfect solution, and it doesn't even involve disassembling the speedo - you just DRIVE your VW every day till you get to the automatic 'reset' point  I had the...

    Sweet '71 SA Panel

Saw this panel in Johannesbug today. It is in daily use, and the owner has secured some of the windows with burglar mesh. Do not know the purpose of the weird contraption on the roof, seems like two pipes going to the back of the engine, with the top part of a plastic bottle on the end. I love...

    Bay wash

After more than 500 effortless kms yesterday for work, through 3 South African provinces and along several gravel roads, I decided to treat the old lady for a car wash this morning. She enjoyed it a lot more than the usual bucket and sponge at home!

    Clutch cable woes

The clutch cable on my '71 has started fraying at the spot where it is crimped onto the adjustment thread, and I know it is just a matter of time before it snaps. A parts dealer with a lesser reputable history sourced me a new cable today, but I am not sure if the one I bought is the correct...

    Headlight adjustment?

Hi, can anyone help me with the correct figures to adjust the headlights of my '71? (Distance from wall, height above ground etc.) It seems at this stage as if I am an ant-aircraft vehicle at night, and the road if front of me is pretty dark  Yes, I know - dropping the suspension...

    Rear brake slave cylinders

My parts store ordered me a set of rear brake slave cylinders by part number for my '71. When I got them today, they seem to be identical to Beetle cylinders. Is this correct? The sticker on the box says VW Bus 1960 - 1978. Will post pics later.

You are not gonna believe this (non-EB)

At least I took the pics from my '71 - and that is the only relation to the Forum :? Drove behind this accident-looking-for-a-place-to-happen on Friday afternoon, from Rivonia Rd offramp to about Allandale Rd on the N1 North, Gauteng. I do not know what this guy was thinking, but the men in...

    Barn...er...BUSHFIND EB panelvan

Always exciting to find an old ACVW by pure coincidence, especially an EarlyBay like this '71 panelvan I stumbled across in the bushes near Hartebeespoortdam today. Sadly, no salvageable parts this time :(

Gauteng Motor Show - Kyalami, ZA

Today has been a public holiday here in South Africa, and with winter not yet completely with us, a large number of VW enthusiasts got together this morning at the Kyalami racing circuit to enjoy the last few warm rays of the sun. The event was the Gauteng Motor Show, and the organisers invited...

    Weird 10 spoke wheel?

Seen on a d/c Bay at a scrapyard, does anyone know what it was called? 14 Inch, 5x112 PCD, 10 spoke aluminium centre bolted into a wide chromed steel rim. Now if only I can find a 4th one, I'll buy the other 3 from the scrapyard to make up a set!

    Fur on my dash!

Went to go and fetch the 2 cat children from the kitty hotel this afternoon, where they stayed while we were on holiday. Sharu, the oldest one, decided that the dash of the Bus is the most comfortable spot for the ride...

Ideas, please? - something on the Side (non-EB)

So we've all heard the story of the Jack Russel that chased a lorry, caught it and then did not know what to do with it. Kinda sums up my emotions at the moment. It all happened when I drove past a sleazy pawn shop in the scary part of Johannesburg's CBD this morning... Saw a funny shape...

    Release bearing blues

Guess it's everyones worst fear, stepping on the clutch pedal and with a faint 'click' sound - NO CLUTCH  Well, friends that is exactly what happened to me yesterday afternoon while driving the Bay, and guess where? At 15:30 on the N1 highway heading South, just before the Rigel...
