Take the fresh air pipe of the fan housing put your ear to it then then block the tailpipe you'll soon know if there rusted through

I bought the engine out of a low mileage legacy it's got the loom maf lamber ecu starter motor and well pretty much everything needed inc manifold just the conversion parts are needed I believe it's the better of the 2.2s too

Could the problem be more electrical maybe ignition key switch breaking down for good measure clean all your fuses up and check the condition
