    Fuel/starting issue

Best guess, fuel starvation. Its running on the content of the float chamber then dies when it runs out because the fuel isn't getting in fast enough to fill it back up. I'd try clearing out the carbs and filters, temporarily remove the regulator (because that's the last thing you touched...

    Tuning twin carb enginge

Sounds like you've got the hang of it, disconnecting the linkage is the bit most folk miss and then chase their tails forever trying to get everything adjusted together all at once. If you've got twin carbs a unisyn or similar is a worthwhile investment as they do drift out of sync but you can...

    Speedo cable faulty

That sounds more like the speedo has gone bad, had a couple do similar thing in beetles after had bent the needle against the stop (oops! :D )

    engine getting hot

This is good advice as its a surprisingly common problem, also check that the fan housing flaps are open / opening (depending on if theyre still there and the thermostat is connected) and that the ignition timing is right. And sort the tinwear out, gaps are bad!

    awning clamps

Old fashioned pole and clamps, doesn't unhook in high wind and doesn't leave gaps between the sections that let's the rain in :)

Front Windscreen SEALS.... Who makes the best one?

The only non-deluxe seal on our deluxe is the windscreen one, it went in but the fit was horrible so it came straight back out again. Now have the fatter non-deluxe one instead, no shiney bits but does at least fit. Shame cos all the other vewib ones are great, good fit and good quality.

    Rear swing arms

Spring plates are different pre-crossover (different splines) and the trailing arms are different pre-69 (from memory). Proper early trailing arms are getting hard to find now as the split boys nicked them all for IRS conversions.... :msn4:

Retrofit a westy top to a steel top? Anyone done it?

I'd stick with using a westy one, proven design and parts support will be around forever :D

    Best window scrapers?

Am I the only one too lazy for templates? Glue around door, stick sheet of plastic on, whip round with a scalpel to tidy it up :D And make sure the bottom of the door is lovely and clean and waxed, with clear drainholes first!

    Which clutch what parts

In my experience, unless you're working to a short timescale and need to have the parts to hand, get the motor out first and find out what you've got / need. After forty years, what the books say it should have and what you may actually find is in there can be two very different things :msn4:

    Shocks

The dropped spindles really need coilovers on the front which would mean the Koni's would be changed out. But the quality option on coilovers are the Gaz ones and you could always get them now, run them without springs (so effectively they're just dampers) while you're at stock height and then...

    steering box peg damage

No worries just glad you got it back together :D

    replacement interior lights

Both our interior lights use an led board like RePhil's but even came with festoon connector so fitting took two minutes - connector in the bulb holder, wedge led board in lenses, job done :) Bigger halfords sell them though they're cheaper online if you get cheap postage

Aaargh - Gaz Shock Help needed

Mine caught in exactly the same place, just took a bit off the edge of the bumpstop and its all good :)

    steering box peg damage

Did you manage to get it back together yet? You've got to do the shoulder ones onto the peg first then locate it back in place but don't hold it too tightly before getting the top ones in. Get help if you can (no specialists skills necessary, nimble fingers and a willingness to get greasy...

Please show me your ebberspacher fuel tanks

Quite a few friends run (mostly ex-BT) diesel ebers, usual tank choice is either one for an outboard or a small ex-motorbike/scooter one. Exhausts run to the side opposite the sliding door to avoid filling the awning with fumes when camping in the cold!

    Wheel Adapters?

Wouldn't it be better just to convert to 5x112 using bits from a later bay and get discs up front into the bargain? I'm also going to guess that the wolfies don't have enough offset to fit adaptors without getting issues on rubbing :?

Engine bay seals vs open baja bugs

Plus for all their hanging it out in the cool, my memory of bajas back in the day is that they usually ran hotter. Was just as well that hanging oil coolers off them was part of the look
