Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

Well since photobucket seems to be back for the time being i’ll Throw some updates out there. After a 3am brake rebuild I managed to finally take the bus out on its longest trip to the early bay camp out. Then when I got home decided to find out why it was running so hot. This...

Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

I finally got the engine out, everything cleaned up and a new flywheel oil seal and associated gubbins back in. A friend came round to help get everything back together tonight, so its fingers crossed that everything works again. I also found time to make a new gear knob recently, the eyes...

Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

erm... I've been so busy this past 11 months, I still haven't got around to fixing whatever is broken and causing the oil leak. Though i am hoping to get it sorted and get to field of dreams again, if i can afford tickets

cheers. its life, I'm just a bit annoyed that after 8 years my first real outing in the van was such a hassle and is going to push my being able to enjoy it properly even further back. it's an original woody, but I'm not sure VW offered them as an accessory ;)

Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

well the engine came out, got a clean and a new flywheel oil seal and O-ring and off we went to field of dreams. the trip there involved a short stop to deposit almost all my oil in a car park followed by a quick top up and getting to site and setting up camp as quickly as possible. after all...

    Whitewall Tyres

It's not that hard, I just jacked it up so i ciuld spin the wheel, gave the tyres a damn good clean, ran some pinstriping tape around where the edge was going to be and went at it. The mouldings on the tyre will pretty much tell you how wide a band it wants, and if you slip you can let it dry a...

    Fitting Sliding door floor trim

I drilled and tapped the floor of the van, the steel is pretty thick and tough there, after countersinking the trim and screwing Allen head machine bolts in it is rock solid and there's nothing for the door (or me) to catch on.

    Whitewall Tyres

Cheers. I've used Mr whitewalls paint, I haven't managed to get enough miles on them really to worry about them going grubby. but i have some paint left over if I need to touch it up.

Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

this morning i took the front end apart to hunt the source of an annoying rubbing noise. once id found that i decided to do some driving, so i went to Scarborough. the clutch started slipping on the way there so i did a bit of roadside adjustment, but now it seems that the brand new flywheel...

    drop spindles rubbing...

Well after stripping everything down I've figured out that the rubbing is coming from the driver side brake disk, but the arms are still pretty bloody close Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk

    drop spindles rubbing...

I have been putting a few miles on the van recently since i have finally got all the major jobs sorted, and I've noticed a rubbing sound as the front wheels turn, new wheel bearings, coil overs, swearing have all made no difference, but tonight i have had a look underneath because i couldn't...

    Cab doors in kidnap mode.

That would make sense on the passenger side as I had to push pretty hard against the cards to get that in, but unless it's the screw itself the drivers side doesn't have the escutcheon (I think that's the fancy posh name) in place yet. I'll take the screw out and see if it makes a difference...

    Cab doors in kidnap mode.

Well I've recently fitted my sexy new door cards. And an issue has arisen... the drivers door will not open from inside, the lever moves but doesn't seem to disengage the latch, the passenger side does open but only with a good shove. Has anyone had this before? Possible clips fouling on the...

Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

well today i got the rest of the door cards in, with a little assistance from my shy head mechanic. and i found some carpet and cut it to fit. I'll see about getting it stuck down somehow when I've got the last couple of dirty jobs out of the way. I also had a spare walkthrough carpet and...

Re: 71 Ex-Danbury, the home straight.

well, today i decided to get some of the new door cards in place. and chucked in a couple of cushions, because why not. . tomorrow's task is to hunt round a few carpet shops and see if anywhere has some smallish offcuts that i can use without having to pay a small fortune.
