Yes, I did think of that, but if a pressure switch fails you wouldn't know whilst the remaining good pressure switch operates the rear brake lights. Then possibly your other switch goes bad, and then you have no working brake lights without any clue until someone slams into the back of you?! I...
Hello all! So I've been up late a few nights in a row researching bits, getting my head around the various systems/parts/etc that I need to fully understand before the van gets painted so I hopefully don't find out I need to alter something/weld something somewhere etc afterwards
The...
I think you've had a skim-reading malfunction there K@rlos. I'm trying to find a set of 15" specifically so I can fit one of David's kits. 14" kit is apparently being worked on, but no idea when/if that will be available.
I'm guessing there's no problems with these on the rear axel then - can I ask what tyre you went for too? So far I've bookmarked Continental Van Contact 200, Michelin Agilis CrossClimate and Hankook Vantra RA18.
Thanks for the table sparkywig! My German is terrible, but from what I understand that says stock wheels for an early bay are 5x14" with 47.5mm offset (EinpreBtief = ET = Offset) and 205mm PCD.
So moving up to a 15" wheel I should be looking for the same figures, but obviously 15"?
Does anybody...
Cheers! This whole area is a bloody minefield for the inexperienced. I'm not too bad with the Mig welder now, but tyres and wheels are something I've not had to think about so far
Thanks Moseley. I'm still getting my head around all the tyre language tbh, but I recon I understand offset - can I ask why you have banded the stock 4" wheels, and why 5.5" specifically? If I understand right the extra material has been added on the 'outside' edge of the wheel, so you would...
I'm aware of the CSP kit. I have a CSP "Stainless" Python exhaust system I bought early before Brexit hit, stored in a dry workshop, has never been used (still got the stickers on it!) and the mounting flanges are already starting to rust. Never mind that I had to chop the muffler pipework up...
Hello again everybody. I have more noob questions, apologies in advance...
I am looking to replace the front drum brakes with a disk brake kit before the van gets back on the road. I did have the Fellows kit bookmarked, but then stumbled upon a post showing David Slack's kit, which by all...
Thanks guys. I managed to travel back in time and get a picture of when I bought the van - the short overiders were indeed fitted on the front bumper:
I will try and do some more digging around the net about the US spec ones over the next few days, see if anything comes up. My only other lead...
Hello again helpful internet people :D
So, my resto guy announced he had bashed about the overiders, got them looking sweet on the bumpers and sprayed everything up ready for new bits of rubbers and bolts etc. So I went and ordered four new bump strips for the overiders... got them down to...
Cheers for the info! I should have pointed out that these are new floor panels, original VW, that I bought quite a few years ago now - I assume they were made in Brazil so probably some differences to the OG parts.
Ozziedog - the old floor was a lot worse with wrinkly-tin roofing patches all...
Evening all,
Anybody know what any of these are for?
I'm guessing the bigger ones may be for hot air outlets and some of the smaller ones are for bolting seats in? I'm going to weld them up shortly unless anyone flags up a use for them. Only thing I can think of is possibly saving one for...
Thanks for the advice guys. My original thinking was along the lines of not trying to hide the work that has been done, but keep the original number obviously. But I'd not thought about insurance claims - I bloody hope I'll avoid any incidents, but I know it doesn't always work out that way!
Hi everybody, subjective question time...
As part of my resto I needed to use a rear chassis/engine bay cut as the original chassis legs were like a rust-pigeon-shit-weld patchwork quilt, and I put a wire brush through the torsion tube. Also the engine bay had been hacked to pieces to fit a T3...
